PM Patterson to officially open new security system today
published: Tuesday | March 2, 2004

PRIME MINISTER, the Most Honourable P.J. Patterson, will today officially commission five new mobile security units, to be used for the inspection of import and export cargo to prevent smuggling of drugs and other contraband at the island's major ports.

The equipment arrived in January and is part of the thrust to improve security at local ports ahead of the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), which takes effect on July 1, 2004.

The commissioning ceremony will take place at APM Terminals Jamaica, Port Bustamante, Kingston.
