'LADY B' IS 92
published: Wednesday | March 10, 2004

A SMALL and intimate gathering of family and friends joined Lady Bustamante at her home in celebrating her 92nd birthday on Monday. Lady B, as she is affectionately called, is the widow of National Hero and Jamaica's first Prime Minister, Sir Alexander Bustamante.

Sporting black slacks, matching jacket with multi-coloured highlights, double strand of pearls and matching studs, Lady Bustamante greeted her guests who were also toasting her health following her recent hospitalization for medical tests last month.

The evening's entertainment included a skit by students of Kingston College, portraying the life of Sir Alexander; a slew of classical selections and standards by pianist Douglasse Burrulace and items by young songbirds, Anna and Samantha Strachaln. Lady B nodded and smiled in appreciation as the dulcet tones of the island's delightful singing sensations wafted in the night.

All the guests present took turns in having a Kodak moment with this special senior, and award winning shutterbug, Muna Issa obliged by displaying photographic prowess.

Among those in attendance were: Joyce Robinson, Evelyn Sangster-Barnes, Carla Seaga, Zein and Chris Nakash, Joseph and Claire McPherson, St. Clare Shirley, Effie and Seragh Lakasingh, Phyllis Salmon and Judith, Adolfo and Sara-Lou Mena, Badhi and Cissy Shoucair, Eddie Shoucair, Alexander and Veronica Bagalou and Ossie and Marigold Harding.
