THE TEST match between West Indies and England cricket teams at Sabina Park, Kingston, from March 11-15, has drawn a considerable amount of business for the city's hotel sector and transport sectors.
Nicola Madden-Greig, director of marketing and area chairman for the Kingston Chapter of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA), told The Gleaner yesterday that the hotels in Kingston were experiencing good business.
"All hotels are fully booked," she said.
However, the cricket match is not the only reason for the increase in business. Conferen-ces being staged by various organisations over the next few days are also drawing clientele.
The cricket has been drawing both domestic business from cricket fans across the island into Kingston's hotels, as well as international visitors.
Jamaica Pegasus, which earns much of its revenue from meetings, said yesterday that currently more than 50 per cent of its bookings are cricket patrons.
Loraine Taite, information systems manager, said the hotel was fully booked until Tuesday and is housing mostly foreign guests, including a film crew.
She said the hotel has had to turn away locals who were seeking reservations.
"This time around there was not a lot of space available to local persons," she said.
Ground transport operators, the Jamaica Union of Travellers Associations, also reported a "considerable increase" in business, owing to the match.
