CollinsST. JOHN', Antigua, CMC:
THE WEST Indies have called up left-arm medium-fast bowler Pedro Collins to replace his injured half-brother Fidel Edwards for the second Test against England, beginning on Friday at Port of Spain's Queen's Park Oval.
Edwards, who took three wickets in England's first innings of the first Test Kingston's Sabina Park, left the field on the third day after straining the left side of his lower back.
Collins is the only change to the 13-member squad that was announced yesterday after England won the first Test by 10 wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the four-match series.
He returns to the West Indies squad for the first time since playing against Australia in the corresponding Test a year ago.
Collins is the leading bowler in the Carib Beer 2004 Cricket Series with 37 wickets at 18.45 apiece in eight matches for Barbados, the repeat Carib Beer Cup champions and Carib Beer International Challenge finalist.
He has taken 55 wickets at 40.32 in 19 Tests for West Indies. His selection comes following purposeful bowling in the Championship during which he developed a mean in-swinging delivery that deceived many batsmen this season.
West Indies are looking to maintain their long, cherished record of not losing a Test series to England in the Caribbean since 1968.
Squad: Brian Lara (captain), Chris Gayle, Devon Smith, Dwayne Smith, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ricardo Powell, Ryan Hinds, Ridley Jacobs, Corey Collymore, Adam Sanford, Tino Best, Pedro Collins.
