OUSTED HAITIAN President Jean-Bertrand Aristide and his wife enjoyed what was described by military sources as a very peaceful Tuesday, their first full day at the countryside mansion in Lydford Park, St. Ann, that will be their home for the next eight to 10 weeks.
The two-storey Lydford Park Great House is owned by Jamaica Bauxite Mining Limited, a Government-owned entity.
The Aristides reportedly appeared to be very tired and had a long rest throughout the day, spending most of the time locked in the house.
"He is enjoying his stay and the peace and quiet of the location," the Aristides' local media liaison, Huntley Medley, told The Gleaner. He said the former President and his family needed some quiet time.
Asked about Mr. Aristide's activities while in Jamaica, Mr. Medley said he did not have any details as those plans were being dealt with personally by Mr. Aristide.
He made it clear however that the former Haitian leader was not trying to snub the press, and neither would he be restricted in his movements while here on the island.
"He is free to go wherever he wants. He is a guest of the Government," Mr. Medley said.
