CARLTON BAUGH Jnr. struck an attacking century to highlight yesterday's opening day of Jamaica's two-day practice match which is in preparation for their Carib Beer International Series final against Barbados which starts on Thursday.
Baugh's 101, which included 13 fours and four sixes off 95 deliveries, was the anchor for Nehemiah Perry's XI 211 for seven, replying to David Bernard Jnr's XI score of 166.
The West Indies reserve wicketkeeper/batsman came to the crease at 46 for one, but within no time it was two wickets down for the same score.
Tamar Lambert, 26, who has been enjoying a good first-class season, was the first to go. In a batsman versus bowler contest which lasted eight overs with fellow St. Catherine CC player Jermaine Lawson, Lambert got a beauty of a bouncer which he could only glove to Keith Hibbert behind the stumps.
The next wicket fell when, in the umpire's view, Danza Hyatt on 19, played down the wrong line and was sent on his way off pacer Dwight Mais.
Former West Indies captain Jimmy Adams, who has been helping with Jamaica's preparations since last year decided to take a knock. He and Baugh took the score to 123 but Adams, known to use his pads, fell lbw to left-arm spinner Phillip Keating for 29.
Baugh continued to punish the bowlers but his best was saved for last. When on 84, Baugh hit three consecutive sixes off off-spinner Bevon Brown to raise his century. However, the very next ball, from Bernard, he was trapped plum in front playing back.
Earlier, Hibbert top scored for Bernard's XI with 64. In an innings in which he hit seven fours and a six off Ryan Cunningham, he shared in a 70-run sixth wicket stand with Bevon Brown who got 30.
Donovan Pagon, 20, Brenton Parchment and Mario Ventura, playing with an injured finger, got 12 each. Cunningham 3-24 and Evon McInnis 2-37 the took most wickets.
Jerome Taylor bowled six over taking 1-13 while Daren Powell (1-26), Andrew Richardson (1-23) also took a wicket each.
