Grateful for adult education
published: Monday | March 22, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I COMMEND the organisers and the MP for South St. Andrew for the launching of the Adult Continuing Education programme (ACE). I believe that this is a step in the right direction and serves as a springboard for serious community development. This is something that I was hoping that the government would have realised for sometime now and I do believe that although late the timing is right.

This training programme I hope will open the eyes of community members, politicians and private sector groups. With community upliftment, one can see a transformed Jamaica. The more educated and self-sufficient we are, the better for the country.

I am hoping to see an integration in the programme structure 'Family Life Education' where good parenting and moral values can be inculcated in the minds of the people. We do need this to help curb the indiscipline in our society.

I would like to recommend that community centres be resurrected and used for such a programme in every community. I am also appealing to the guys on the corners and men at large, please get on board!

I am, etc.,
