JC's coach wants 21st win
published: Wednesday | March 24, 2004

JAMAICA COLLEGE will be hunting their 21st lien on the championship trophy when the 2004 VMBS Boys and Girls Athletic Championships get under way at the National Stadium today.

John Mair, a 1988 Olympian, is aiming to lift the championship trophy for the first time as head coach following a long apprenticeship under Michael Clarke.

Mair, who won a bronze medal at the 1987 World Athletics Championships as a member of Jamaica's 4x100m team, has been at JC since 1989 and in the past 15 years JC have won the title seven times.

"We are coming with quality to try and regain the Mortimer Geddes Trophy," Mair said recently.

"We are not looking at a specific points level but the winners are unlikely to go over 200 points. A winning level could be 180-190 points and we feel we can get up to that score."

Mair's key area is Class Two where last year's Class Three sprint champion Winston Barnes will attempt to win the sprint double in his first year in the class.
