Home schooling and its challenges
published: Monday | March 29, 2004

"IT WOULD be good to have every child having the facilities around, but we operate within a realm of reality. We understand all the constraints. For instance, the Ministry's policy and support is to really have computer facilities in schools. We have gone, sourced, helped with, but it's a path, it's a growth path, It's a way to, and we cannot say here that we have given all schools; but in the majority of instances schools have been supported with Internet facility.

"We think the philosophy is that the home is the first school, but where does the capacity of the home end and where does a formal system, if you want, take up from there, where does it take up. I admit and agree we need to change. If you take a look at the curriculum somebody spoke of the teacher even though being a diploma trained teacher might not be the right person for your child. We are not saying that every teacher who graduates with a diploma is the right person for the child, because we take into consideration the learning styles of children. Nobody can deliver to every child, and it is the risk we run."
