Continue the brave fight, officers
published: Tuesday | March 30, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

A MALE whose action was questionable and who was subsequently found with an illegal gun was rescued by a mob in Olympic Gardens. And one policeman had to fight dearly for his life, while the other had to protect the police car, and at the end of the melee one officer had to be treated for cuts and bruises? I am saddened.

I implore the powers that be to ensure that these areas are under the eyes of the camera. For in a situation such as this, law officers should be able to readily identify such perpetrators and have them face the full extent of the law! Officers have got to find a strategy to deal with persons within certain communities who continue to do this. We just cannot allow it to spiral out of control.

To members of the Police Force, my prayers are with you. Continue the brave fight. There are many of us when the two officers were recently killed who did not block the road, but we were as mad as hell and yes, we prayed for friends, families and colleagues of these officers and mourned with them as well.

To those citizens who continue to snatch criminals from police officers, there WILL come a time when these guns are going to turn on you because God isn't sleeping and you have to suffer the consequences of your actions and yes, it IS these same policemen who will have to rescue you from the criminals.

I thank God both officers are okay.

I am, etc.,

ANDREA LAWRENCE
