Good move, CARICOM
published: Thursday | April 1, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM saluting CARICOM on the stand it has taken on Haiti. Let us get the truth. The world must know whether President Aristide did resign or was kidnapped. CARICOM must leave no stone unturned. We have memories of Daniel Ortega, General Noriega, Maurice Bishop. Panama City was bombed by the United States and Noriega was kidnapped and taken to the United States where he was tried, sentenced and is still in prison.

If it is proven that Aristide was kidnapped it could be Haiti today and any one of the CARICOM countries tomorrow. CARICOM wants an independent investigation; the United States Ambassador is against it. We all must take what Colin Powell says. CARICOM cannot speak for themselves, Colin Powell must speak for them, that is U.S. democracy.

The ambassador says that the U.S. has given over a billion dollars in aid to Haiti but to whom was that aid given?

I am etc.,

FRED ALLEN
