We can fight back!
published: Monday | April 19, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WE CAN fight back! We don't have to give up and allow the "tentacles of decadence" (taken from The Gleaner, April 13, 2004) to strangle us and especially our children. We have to be willing to implement (enforce?) basic social skills and moral and Godly values in our society through the schools, through the media (which has played a part in contributing to moral decline anyway).

The homes have to be penetrated too, by having parenting seminars (not necessarily so called), through community centres, churches, etc.

The Bible declares 'that righteousness exalteth a nation' and that 'the wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted'. We have been exalting and promoting the wrong values and have erased standards. We have allowed the concept of tolerance to prevent us from calling wrong, wrong, and have been timid in maintaining standards in our fast changing world.

It is time for action! We need to actively engage the young (and not so young). They need to be re-taught that there are behaviours that are inappropriate and simply wrong and that there are consequences to such behaviours.

I am, etc.,

A FIGHTER U
