Semi-final showdowns at C/Spring
published: Saturday | April 24, 2004

THE FIRST of two ties to decide this season's Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) league champions will take place this afternoon at Constant Spring field.

August Town and Shortwood United will open the double-header in the Major League final at 2:00 p.m.

This will be followed by the Super League final to be contested by reigning champions Santos and Boys' Town at 4:00 p.m.

It is the third time in as many years that Santos and Boys' Town are challenging for KSAFA's premier league title. Santos won on both occasions, the Major League in the first year and last season's inaugural Super League.

Winning the competition gives both teams an opportunity to play in the Wray and Nephew National Premier League, which is at the top of their agenda.

PLAYOFF

"It is the ultimate thing because you've to win the Super League to get to that play-off," pointed out Santos' coach, Carlton 'Spanner' Dennis.

The champion advances to a four-team play-off among Confederation champions which promotes the top two to the NPL.

"The desire is there. Having played twice after being in the wilderness for a long time. We think that third time around it will happen," Dennis said.

"We're going to give it our best shot to ensure that at the end of the day we'll be around."

On the other-hand, Boys' Town's coach, Andrew Price, said of his players: "They really want to play big-time football, that's the motivation the team has this year compared to previous years.

"This is what it is all about. I think the team is very focussed and aware of what it needs to do."

Earlier matches ended 1-1 and 2-0 for Boys' Town and both teams expressed confidence ahead of the first leg.

The second leg ties are scheduled for next Saturday.
