DOUBLE CENTURIES are like the eighth wonder of the world in cricket, and Tamar Lambert will have etched his name in the memories of his opponents by doing it while remaining unbeaten last weekend.

For this feat against defending champions Jam-aica Defence Force (JDF) in last week's Super Cup clash, Lambert who scored 493 runs for Jamaica this season with a top score of 82 in the Carib Beer Series, has been named the Gleaner's Top Performer of the Week.

The middle-order batsman, a former St. Catherine Cricket Club captain, highlighted the opening day's play of the second round Cup when he punished all the JDF bowlers on his way to 202 not out at Up Park Camp.

The right-handed Lam-bert, also a useful off-spinner, collected $20,000 for his effort, this was after an innings laced with 18 fours and four sixes off 253 deliveries in 362 minutes and along with Pinnock Jnr. who also scored a century, 106 added 238 runs for St. Catherine's third wicket.

Lambert represented Jonathan Grant for five years between 1994-99 during which time he scored eight Sunlight Cup and five Colts centuries was also unbeaten on 49 in the second innings.

His best Colts (Under-16) efforts were 214 against Mona 193 against Jermaine Lawson's Waterford in a final while 161 was his best Sunlight Cup innings, which came in a final against Kingston College in 1997.

Regarded as one of the best schoolboy batsman in his day, Lambert captained the first Jamaica Under-15 team, which won the inaugural West Indies tournament.

Lambert also led the Jamaica Under-19 team in his final year of youth cricket to championship honours in the one-day competition and the semi-final stage of the league in 1999.

Lambert's best innings for the Jamaica Under-19s was 87 against Guyana, which saved the Jamaicans who were staring defeat in the face. The all-rounder, who also represented Shaw Park and Sandals Negril in hotel cricket and Joggers in Campari League, enjoyed a good season with the ball, taking 6-30 against St. Elizabeth in the Capital and Credit All-Island one-day competition and finished with 20 wickets in the season from six matches.
