HERMAN BAKER, former industrial relations manager at the National Water Commission (NWC), has been named the new human resource and development (HRD) Manager for the Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ). He assumed office on May 3, 2003.
Mr. Baker, who brings a wealth of experience and training in industrial relations and human resource management, expects to use his new role to promote, maintain and enhance the industrial relations climate at the Port of Kingston. A major part of Mr. Baker's brief is to enhance the training of workers and staff employed to the association; and to pursue the development of a more vigorous safety management programme for stevedores.
A trained teacher, Mr. Baker holds a Master's degree in human resource management and first degree in professional Management from the Nova Southeastern University. He is a graduate of the University of the West Indies, the College of Arts, Science and Technology (CAST) and Mico Teacher's College. He was also senior conciliation officer of the Ministry of Labour between 1980 and1992.
