The power of touch THE HEALING TOUCH THE HEALER
published: Monday | May 31, 2004

THE HEALER

Former teacher, speech writer and business consultant, Audrey Cooke.

WHAT SHE DOES

The work (also called spiritual or vibrational healing) is based on a belief system that everything is (interactive/reactive) energy.

The energy medicine paradigm is based on the belief that because everything is energy, then energy sources can be used to restore balance harmony from disharmony, and ease from disease, explains Cooke, who operates from Eden Gardens on Lady Musgrave Road in St. Andrew.

HOW IT'S DONE

Focusing the energies that bring freedom and relief for others by using the hands, voice, crystals, sounds.

Part of the work is also helping people to find their soul call (vocation), that is, that thing which they should really be doing. Sessions, she says, are devoted to counselling, spiritual or vibrational healing, especially blockage removal, and spiritual growth.

There is a focus on the removal of traumas that prevent the free flow of energy through your system. This is a gentle, subtle, powerful experience that enables you to change negative attitudes and limited beliefs that impact on the full development of health and well-being, becoming more of who you really are."

WHAT HAPPENS IN A SESSION

People come with a list of things that are affecting them. We discuss what is on the list as well as other issues that come up.

In vibrational or energy medicine sessions the healer uses her hands or crystals to pass over the client's body or touch key areas like the back of the head a common area of blockage.

The session may also involve using resonating sounds from objects over the general body area, or vocalising to facilitate the transference of energy.

THE CLIENT

Fifty-two-year-old Victoria Ricketts: "My problem was fear, fear that began to be reflected in the physical, my heart kept beating fast. It was definitely not palpitations. I knew something was wrong, I went to the doctors they didn't know what was wrong. I prayed and meditated but to no avail.

"The sessions revealed a connection between physical and verbal abuse in a past relationship and a latent fear of being assaulted and attacked.

"There were a lot of things that came out of that fear because at one point I just found myself constantly getting sick and the doctor didn't know what was wrong with me.

Now I'm feeling more confident, I feel more free. I find, too, that conditions elsewhere in my body are also being resolved a darkened, extremely itchy patch on one leg is slowly receding and no longer itches.

TIPS ON CREATING AND RETAINING POSITIVE ENERGY

Do that thing which you love.

Be honest enough (in a relationship or life) to say, 'This hurts.'

Be ready to let it go for something better.

One should give a minimum of one hour a day to do something for oneself.

Give up complaining and criticising. Instead, give encouragement or silence.
