THE EDITOR, Sir:
CONGRATULATIONS ARE in order to the RJR Group for launching their '22 century' television studio recently. However, there is a very sore point I would like to ask them to correct.
I notice on their morning programme Smile Jamaica, the female hosts are always nicely attired, especially Amina Blackwood-Meeks. However, there are too many times when the male hosts, Simon Croskill and Neville Bell are so tackily dressed that I refuse to watch the programme.
Come on guys, a crushed T-shirt hanging over jeans as worn by Simon Croskill on the Friday June 25 show is just not on (in my book) for a 'coffee' news, feature programme.
Compare the competition - CVM TV, and on cable, NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, WPIX - all their hosts are always immaculately attired in at least a dress shirt, tie and dress slacks.
These seemingly simple, yet critically important standards of appropriate dress and decorum are important in nation-building and setting proper examples. Don't destroy them, because before you guys started this trend, it never used to be that way.
Come on guys - "dress to impress not to depress"!
I am etc.,
