Kimone Thompson, Gleaner WriterLIFE of Jamaica (LoJ) snatched victory from Victoria Mutual Building Society (VMBS) in a keenly contested preliminary match of the Business House Netball Association's Open League at the Leila Robinson Courts last night.
Winning the match 17-16, LoJ put up a tough fight to come out on top over VMBS, thus redeeming themselves from a disappointing loss to Jamaica Broilers last week.
At half time, the scores read 9-7 in favour of VMBS, but that was quickly overturned by the victorious insurers with a shuffle in their starting line-up.
Manager of the LoJ team, Ray Johnson, was excited about the victory.
"I am ecstatic," he beamed. "The team played as we trained yesterday. They did exactly what was taught."
He also attributed the victory to the team's flexibility, saying that most of the players are versatile and can excel in any position. He added that the decision to put Nickeisha Richards in the goal shooter's bib was an excellent judgement call that had good results.
Coach of the defeated VMBS, Wayne Stewart, said he was disappointed with his team's performance.
MADE COMEBACK
"It was totally poor because the centre (position played by Simone Martin) didn't give what was wanted. After LoJ made the change we didn't know what to do. The turnovers killed us but we came back in the game."
In last night's other games, Minott whipped Blue Cross 20-11, while NWC 'A' pulled ahead of Sugar 23-20 in their tie-breaking play-off.
The other matches that were originally scheduled for last night were postponed on account of the violence that has erupted in the old capital of Spanish Town but if all goes well, the other quarter-finalists will be determined tomorrow.
