Jamaica Gleaner Letters
published: Wednesday | July 21, 2004

Put prisoners to work
THE EDITOR, Sir: AS I was sitting in the Resident Magistrate's Court in Port Antonio recently, for a matter to be brought up, I had time to think and reflect on some solutions to some of the problems that affect everyone in the island.

Horrible abuse of children
THE EDITOR, Sir: I AM very concerned about the extent of the abuse of minor children in Jamaica.

Dark-skinned Festival queens are no surprise
THE EDITOR, Sir: I NOTED with interest, the letter from Jackie B in yesterday's edition of The Gleaner entitled 'Pleasantly surprised'.

Surely, you jest!
THE EDITOR, Sir: TELL ME this is not true. Christopher Columbus being honoured in Jamaica?

Parents, don't neglect your children
THE EDITOR, Sir: I AM again thanking you in advance for publishing my letter, which is an appeal to the citizens of Jamaica.

Leave Vere Tech's name alone!
THE EDITOR, Sir: NOW THAT Mr. Hugh Shearer has departed this life there are some people and interest groups (all emotional and watery-eye) proposing to re-name the Vere Technical High School after him. This call should not go unchallenged.

Costly Internet service
THE EDITOR, Sir: IN READING a recent article written by Dennie Quill, which criticised the role of the Office of Utilities Regulations (OUR) over a lack of action regarding problems with Cable and Wireless Jamaica's (CWJ) ADSL service...

Let's take back our country
THE EDITOR, Sir: SOMETIMES, I wonder if the silence of our leaders means they are comfortable with what is happening. The crime, extortion, collusion and corruption is just appalling.

Ban all anti-gay songs from radio
THE EDITOR, Sir: WITH ALL due respect to Melville Cooke, I believe he overlooked an important factor in his article "The price of life" printed in The Gleaner on Thursday, July 15.
