Dark-skinned Festival queens are no surprise
published: Wednesday | July 21, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I NOTED with interest, the letter from Jackie B in yesterday's edition of The Gleaner entitled 'Pleasantly surprised'. I have been following the Jamaica Festival Queen Competition for a number of years and wish to point out that the winner of the 2003 Festival Queen Competition was indeed a dark-skinned black woman.

Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the competition in 2001 and 2002. But the winner in the year 2000 was also a dark-skinned black woman.

I am, etc.,
