The island's best
chefs went stove to stove last weekend in the annual Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Professional Culinary Arts Competition
at the Renaissance, Jamaica Grande
in Ocho Rios.
From elaborate cheese platters and sculptures (one chiseled in the shape of a bridge),
to wedding cakes,
vegetable, hot
foods and pastry
competitions the chefs blew off steam to lay claim to being the best.
In the end Breezes Runaway Bay Resort dominated with Clifton Hoggarth taking the Chef of the Year trophy and Lincoln Peterkin outbaking his rivals
for Pastry Chef of the Year. For the third straight year the resort ran away with the
coveted Dutch Pot award as the top hotel in the competition.
The present Dutch Pot trophy will now be retired because of this feat and a new one made for next year's
competition.
