THE EDITOR, Sir:
I WAS very pleased to read a short article in the July 13th edition of The Gleaner, titled 'Choosing a PM is serious business' by Rev. Joan Porteous.
She has hit the nail on the head. We must put away childish things and face the true facts of life as they face our nation today. We must understand that the task of leading a nation was never meant for the weak-hearted.
I believe that the present Minister of Finance, Dr. Omar Davies, is the most suitable person to take the post as Prime Minister of Jamaica, when the present Prime Minister has resigned.
The reasons are as follows: Dr. Davies has been in the field long enough, meeting people in the top league of governments and heads of financial organisations. He knows the language of money. He keeps a cool head when all others around him are losing theirs. He knows and understands the ways of professional rascals. He has survived many rough tackles and ducked under some serious bouncers. These experiences have matured the man in ways that make him able to look the Good, Bad or Ugly in the eye and say 'Don't bother with that!' I think every Jamaican knows what I mean.
It is my firm opinion that Dr. Davies can walk among 'the riff-raff', also among kings and queens without losing the common touch.
I am, etc.,
