Jamaica Gleaner Letters

LETTER OF THE DAY - Assign Rapid Response trucks to Fire Department
THE EDITOR, Sir: NEARLY EVERY day there is a fire somewhere in the country that leaves devastation and sorrow behind. On many occasions there is not enough water to keep even one fire engine going.

Liberalised criminality
THE EDITOR, Sir: SOME OF us may not have seen the letter in the July 19 edition of The Gleaner written by 'MC' from Frome Westmoreland. In that letter it was alleged that two gunmen went to a church in that part of town, not to give thanks and praise...

Thanks, Sandals
THE EDITOR, Sir: I WENT to Sandals Dunn's River hotel in Summer 2003 as a summer worker with the intention of working hard, getting paid and saving to help pay my college tuition. To my surprise I did a lot more than that.

What about freedom of speech?
THE EDITOR, Sir: I AGREE with the writer of the letter who advocates that all anti-gay songs be banned from the radio.

Racism in Cuba
THE EDITOR, Sir: I AM writing this in response to a letter that was submitted in your paper about racism in Cuba. I visited Cuba two summers ago and while I admit that I did not experience any hostility while I was there, I must say that...

In defence of bypass vendors
THE EDITOR, Sir: I AM replying to an article in the Friday July 9 edition of The Gleaner 'Vendors taking over Spanish Town Bypass'.

Clarifying the cell tower issue
THE EDITOR, Sir: THE NATIONAL Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) has taken note of an article published in The Gleaner on Wednesday, June 23, 2004 under the caption 'C&W tower raises tempers in Manchester'.

Media promoting violence
THE EDITOR, Sir: THE NATION is now reeling from a high incidence of violence, which permeates every nook and cranny. This violence unfolds in varied circumstances - domestic, extra-judicial killings, vigilante justice, crimes of passion, etc.

Grateful for teachers
THE EDITOR, Sir: THIS IS an open letter to all teachers/educators: On behalf of the students of Jamaica, I wish to express gratitude to you all for the effort you have made this last academic year to impart knowledge and skills to us.
