Fenton... not fully recovered from injury. - File
JAMAICA'S top female 400 metres runner, Lorraine Fenton, has withdrawn from the national team to next month's Athens Olympics in Greece.
The head of the JAAA's selection committee, Bernie Panton, confirmed Fenton's withdrawal yesterday.
Fenton, in her letter, said she had not fully recovered from the injury which kept her out of the National Senior Championships.
The national record-holder for the 400m had been given up to August 4 to confirm her fitness for the August 13-29 Games.
Fenton, 31, won a silver medal in the 400 metres at the 2000 Sydney Games and was expected to be one for Jamaica's leading contenders for an individual medal in Athens.
Fenton, whose national record for the 400m is 49.30, was also expected to be an important member of the country's female 4x400m team.
Two other athletes, world junior 200m record holder Usain Bolt and Sydney 100m bronze medallist Tayna Lawrence, also missed the National Championships because of injury.
Both are still racing against time to be fit for the Games.
