By Petrina Francis, Education ReporterTHE ANNUAL conference of education officers will begin on Thursday at Breezes, Runaway Bay.
The three-day conference will be held under the theme 'Managing Change in a Turbulent Environment: The Challenge of the Education Officers.'
Dorett Campbell, director of communications at the Educa-tion Ministry, said, "A lot of time will be spent looking at the role and functions of the education officers and to aligning these roles with the new vision of education," she said. "It is redefining ourselves and re-inventing ourselves in light of new changes," Campbell added.
Robert Gregory, chief executive of HEART Trust/NTA, will be the keynote speaker while Dr. Blossom O'Meally-Nelson is expected to give the closing address.
OFFICERS SELECTED
A new president and vice-president of the Jamaica Association of Education Officers are expected to be selected.
Education officers, who have served the association and education well, will be honoured for their contribution to the field.
"We will also be recognising nine officers who have given outstanding service to the association and to education," Ms. Campbell said. These officers are Sonia Burke, Arlie Dyer, Myrtle Hutchinson, Roslyn Kelly, Lindsay Roy Nelson, Barbara Brisset, Elrette Gooden, Carmelita Barrife, and Rodyard Ellis.
