Don't play the blame game, lead

THE EDITOR Sir:
IT WOULD appear that Mayor Notice is preparing to give up the challenge and to break the oath he made to serve, when he was publicly sworn in as Mayor of Spanish Town. He claims he does not want to be associated with failure. I must remind Mr. Notice that he is a part of the administration and instead of playing the blame game, he should lead.
A good leader should be able to influence his followers to do what is required and generally accepted. Leadership demands stamina, and the Mayor needs to get out of his comfort zone and do his job. His notice to quit is unacceptable. Fourteen months into his commitment and he wants to quit. A bad leader runs away when he has failed. The next Local Government election is supposedly due in 2006 and in the midst of his term, he is proposing for someone else to come and make things right. Serve your term and do your work, we want action and not "a bag a mouth".
Politicians jumping ship to hide is also part of the social decay we face. A new Superintendent of Police has been appointed and the JDF is to assist. With all of this, Mr. Notice should by now be re-strategizing with his team to solve the crime problem in Spanish Town.
