Shame on the Jamaica postal service
published: Wednesday | September 1, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I MAILED a pack of car gaskets for my uncle's car in May and up to now he has not received it. I called my post office in the Bronx 10466 and they openly said to me all items going to Jamaica are not guaranteed as they steal a lot at the post office in Jamaica.

They have a system at the Jamaica post office where if they see an item they need, you will never get a notice to collect your parcel. This should not be so. This is shameful. I remember in the 70's my aunt asked me to deposit $20,000 each week, I never stole it. I had no job and 5 persons to feed. I grew up in the ghetto but I don't have the ghetto in me.

New York post offices open Saturdays 9-2 p.m. Jamaican post offices are closed on Saturdays and that is the day when most people do business. The US postal worker steals as well, as I mailed a 14K bracelet for my grandson from the Bronx to Hartford Connecticut and up to this day he has never got it.

I am, etc.,
