A MEMORANDUM of Understanding (MoU) was signed yesterday between Ledermode Limited and Tools for Development Jamaica Ltd., (TDJ) in which Ledermode will provide training for beneficiaries of the TDJ project.
Barclay Ewart, chairman of Ledermode and Earl Jarrett, general manager of Jamaica National Building Society, representing TDJ, signed the MoU at Ledermode's offices on Spanish Town Road, Kingston.
As part of the MoU, Ledermode will provide complimentary training for select small/micro-entrepreneur customers of TDJ. In return, TDJ will provide affordable shoe manufacturing equipment, leather craft equipment and leather work products for Ledermode. Two candidates were chosen and began their training in leather crafting two weeks ago. They train for two hours every Tuesday and Thursday.
Mr. Ewart said that Ledermode had always wanted to get involved with a project of this nature. "We are glad that the opportunity has come up now. We have always wanted to give training and give employment. Not everybody can migrate to the IT sector," he said.
The Tools for Development programme, which was started in February of 2001, is a collaborative effort of The Gleaner Company Ltd., JNBS, Kingston Restoration Company, CARE Canada and the Government of Jamaica.
It seeks to provide second- hand tools for sale at affordable prices to small and micro-enterprises to facilitate business improvement and expansion.
