THE EDITOR, Sir:
FRANCIS FORBES is a decent Jamaican. He loves his job and I am convinced that he gives it his full attention. Indeed, Mr. Forbes himself has stated publicly that he has done his best.
Since Mr. Forbes has become the Commissioner of Police, the murder rate in Jamaica has reached unacceptable proportions and continues to escalate. In summary, Mr. Forbes is not doing the job that he is being paid to do. He is, therefore, collecting a salary while not fulfilling the mandate of his employers.
Mr. Forbes should be no longer the Commissioner of Police. These are the facts, and the longer we as a people take to understand that you cannot be paid to do the job to the best of your ability while the results of your performance get worse and worse and expect to go on as if nothing is wrong.
I now call upon the members of the Government, who represent us as the employers of the Commissioner of Police, to make the necessary arrangements to thank Mr. Forbes for his years of service to the Jamaica Constabulary, and to recognise some of the good things he has done in the past. But further to this to recognise that he has now outlived his usefulness and we need a new Commissioner of Police.
I am, etc.'
