A visitor's point of view
published: Tuesday | September 7, 2004

THE EDITOR, SIR:
I RECENTLY visited Jamaica with my wife and stayed with her aunt in Allman Town opposite Heroes Park a nice place to visit and to gain insight to your history. I will point out I am white so the point of this letter should be more relevant.
I visited many places on the island, including your lovely beaches and, of course, Kingston market, where I was the only white person around. I have therefore seen most aspects of Jamaica, the good and the not so good, and at no time did I feel out of place or alone. The people of Jamaica made me feel so welcome and proud to be a visitor meeting my wife's God-fearing and precious friends and relatives.
I was also lucky enough to be there for Emancipation and Independence Day and some unforgettable days were spent at both your great parks. Thank you Jamaica and all your people should be proud and face the future with faith and determination.
I am, etc.,
