THE EDITOR, Sir:

A RECENT news item quoted Mayor Notice as saying that he would be removing vendors from certain areas within Spanish Town because they are contributing to the violence in the town. The mayor needs to clear the blocked roads so that productive (tax-paying) citizens can move around freely.

Last year hundreds of thousands of dollars were spent on Valdez Road after years of neglect. This road, that connects St. Johns Road and Old Harbour Road, has been blocked for the past four months. This makes commuting difficult both in the morning and evening.

If these people need to block the road for their protection do so late in the night but allow us access during the day. Mr. Mayor, please clear this road now and minimise the traffic congestion.

I am, etc.,

M.B. JOHNSON

Spanish Town
