WESTERN BUREAU:

THE RECENTLY-launched 'Expo 2004', slated for October 8-10 in Montgeo Bay, is still on target to showcase products and services from local and international companies, seeking to expand their commercial prospects.

The recent passage of Hurricane Ivan had shed doubt on the staging of the event, which is being organised by the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Mary Chambers, chairperson of 'Expo 2004', said that western Jamaica's premier trade show will be held as planned.

RECEIVING CONFIRMATIONS

"We are still in the process of receiving confirmations at this time," said Ms. Chambers. "With the hurricane's devastation, the commercial sector definitely needs a kick start. 'Expo 2004' will definitely provide that kick that we need to get things moving again."

This year's show is being organised under the theme 'Montego Bay The Emerging Market' and will feature more than 100 exhibitors from a wide cross-section of the business community. Workshops, seminars and entertainment will also be featured.

"For years it has been a tremendous success and has become the benchmark for other trade shows in Jamaica," Ms. Chambers said. "We have always seen a steady increase of patrons to the event, and we are expecting a turnout of more than 10,000 people."
