Jamaica Gleaner Letters

Why Hurricane Ivan changed direction
THE EDITOR, Sir: MANY OF us, as well as meteorologists here and in Miami, are perplexed at Hurricane Ivan's sudden deviation from what seemed to be a bullseye hit for Jamaica.

A time for leadership
THE EDITOR, Sir: I WISH to add my views on the recent hurricane and the looting that accompanied it. It's good that the damage done by the hurricane was less than anticipated, and that there was a minimum loss of lives.

Put country before politics
THE EDITOR, Sir: THE RECENT hurricane and its aftermath have made me both proud to be a Jamaican and disappointed in our inability to rise above petty political squabbling.

The Gleaner and Power 106
THE EDITOR, Sir: COMMENDATIONS AND thanks must be expressed to the Gleaner Company and Power 106 FM for keeping the world abreast with current affairs in Jamaica especially during the period of the last hurricane.

Central Police Station
THE EDITOR, Sir: I WOULD like to take this opportunity to thank the Superintendent and his men from Central Police Station, and Inspector Powell and his men from City Centre Police Station for the duty that they all performed...

KPH doctors
THE EDITOR, Sir: I MUST write and say thanks to the team of hard-working doctors at the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH). The negative publicity that the hospital gets over the years is so unfounded.

Jamaica Constabulary Force
THE EDITOR, Sir: PLEASE ALLOW me to use this medium to express my sincere gratitude to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) for the tireless job of patrolling the dangerous streets before, during and after the passage of Hurricane Ivan.

Jamaica Public Service
THE EDITOR, Sir: ON BEHALF of my family, we would like to congratulate Mr. Charles Matthews and the members of staff of the Jamaica Public Service Company Limited on the tremendous work they are doing in trying to restore electricity to the people...

Cable & Wireless
THE EDITOR, Sir: I MUST use this medium to commend Cable & Wireless mobile on the splendid service that was provided throughout Hurricane Ivan.
