Central Police Station
published: Thursday | September 23, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WOULD like to take this opportunity to thank the Superintendent and his men from Central Police Station, and Inspector Powell and his men from City Centre Police Station for the duty that they all performed during and after Hurricane Ivan.

Due to the professionalism, dedication and determination displayed by the police in the crisis caused by Hurricane Ivan, downtown for the most part was spared a repeat of the wanton looting that was experienced during and after Hurricane Gilbert.

The police and the army worked long, uncomfortable and dangerous hours during and after the passage of the hurricane, serving all Jamaicans in the line of their duty. I would personally like to thank them for a job well done, as they went above and beyond the call of duty.

My store at 93a Princess Street, Kingston, was spared from a gang of looters due to the security patrol that foiled an attempted break-in that was in progress as the looters had already cut off all but one of the padlocks to my store shutter, and was about to gain entry.

The patrol came under fire and after the looters ran, the police and the army stayed and protected the store until I could replace the locks that were cut off. This action saved me millions of dollars in losses.

Thank you again and always continue to be steadfast and professional in the execution of your duties.

I am, etc.,

MARK AZAN

93a Princess Street,

Kingston
