Charity group awards eight scholarships
published: Friday | September 24, 2004

BLACK RIVER, St. Elizabeth:

THE ST. Elizabeth-based charity organisation, the Barbary Hall Church School Foundation, has awarded four scholarships and four grants totalling $60,000 to eight students in the parish at a recent ceremony held at the Barbary Hall Anglican Church.

President of the foundation, Maudlin Roache, challenged the awardees to work hard in school and to make the group proud. She said the scholarships and grants should serve as motivation for all of the beneficiaries. "I want you to go forth and make us proud as we seek to assist others."

"We are happy to be assisting you in your educational pursuits. It doesn't matter how small it may be," said Ms. Roache, who is also a retired principal.

The scholarship awardees are Diana Falconer, Georgian Robinson, Shavaile Spence and Sashawna Williams, who each received $10,000.

Those who received grants are Camille Bernard, Andrew Marshall, Dermut Parchment and Germaine Williams. They were presented with $5,000 each. The students benefiting are all attending St. Elizabeth Technical, Newell, Black River and Lacovia high schools respectively.
