The impact of prayer
published: Tuesday | September 28, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

AS THE saying goes: 'God works in mysterious ways, HIS wonders to perform.' (My emphasis). I am so happy that the mysterious ways of God are revealed in both Mark Wignall of the Observer and Robert Lalah of the Gleaner taking on Rev. Al Miller on whether prayer had any impact on Ivan. We have prayed for this!

Mecca is described as the spiritual centre of Islam. Pilgrims go there to pray! The question is not whether their prayers are answered. The answer is obvious because the place is also described as "a place that attracts many people." They are not attracted for sex, sun, sea and drugs, mind you. They are attracted to pray!

Would to God, that Jamaica could quickly see the benefits of such a phenomenon. That is, being known as the Prayer Mecca of the West rather than the murder capital. Would to God, that our Tourism could become focused on us becoming the Peacemaker nation because we pray rather than the casino capital because we seek new ways to rape others and subvert our God-given destiny.

Would to God, that the Church would become aware of the awesome inheritance contained in our national Anthem, Pledge and Motto as a nation who declared: \'Eternal Father Bless Our Land\'... \ 'so that Jamaica may under God\' ... as \'neither, Jew nor Greek,...slave nor free,...male nor female\' but \'one blood\', in truth \ 'Out Of Many One People\'.

Talk about an economic, social and spiritual reconstruction! Let us pray! Eternal Father: Hear us as we pray, forgive our sin of ignorance in the face of this great knowledge and heal our land.

I am, etc.,
