24 Special district constables graduate
published: Thursday | September 30, 2004

THE DEPARTMENT of Correctional Services has increased its complement of special district constables with the graduation of 24 additional officers on Tuesday.

The graduation service was held at the St. Catherine North Divisional headquarters in Spanish Town, St. Catherine.

Major Richard Reece, Commissioner of Corrections, encouraged the graduates to share the knowledge gained during their training with others.

"This new knowledge that you have should be shared in a prudent manner," he said.

He also encouraged the graduates to be professional and responsible in doing their jobs.

The correctional officers were trained over a two-and-a-half week period in various areas including laws, police powers of arrest, leadership and public speaking.

The correctional services now have 44 special district constables, and according to Major Reece the intention is to grow this number until there are special district constables in each of its institutions.
