Int'l Trade Expo opens on Sunday
published: Wednesday | October 6, 2004

Susan Smith, Staff Reporter

THE INTERNATIONAL Trade Expo 2004 is set to be very profitable for all the business participants involved says chief organiser, Mr. Arnold Foote Senior, Dean of the Consular Corps of Jamaica.

The International Trade Exposition will be held from October 10 to 12 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, Mr. Foote told journalists at a press conference at the Courtleigh Hotel yesterday.

President of the Jamaica Export Association, Dr. Andre Gordon said the number of countries participating has increased from 12 last year to 30 this year.

The annual event is organised by the Consular Corps of Jamaica and aims at developing international cooperation through trade and re-establishing Kingston as a lucrative tourist destination. It exposes Jamaican and foreign businesses to a range of products available for import and export says Mr. Foote.

"We are encouraging the businessmen to save currency travelling and deal with the consulates," he said. "They will do everything for them including setting up the research." Local companies are urged to make use of business seminars coordinated by Mr. Chris Issa, honorary consul for Slovakia Republic, Mr. Trevor Ferron of the Jamaica Conference Board and Mrs. June Deer of Jampro. The seminars will be a major feature of the Expo. The Trade Expo will also include a Cultural Gala which will expose Jamaicans to different cultures around the world free of cost. This show takes place on October 11, in the Emancipation Park.
