Clan Carthy, Excelsior seek to maintain perfect record
published: Thursday | October 7, 2004

GROUP E LEADERS Clan Carthy High will defend their unbeaten streak today when they travel to Ardenne High in a rescheduled fixture of the ISSA Pepsi/Sports Plus Manning Cup competition.

Clan Carthy have emerged as surprising front-runners ahead of favourites Bridgeport High and are one of five teams that are unbeaten. Champs Excelsior High, Camperdown High, Tivoli High and Wolmer's Boys are the other schools that have not given up three points.

14 POINTS

Since winning their opening game 3-0 against Campion College, Clan Carthy have gone on to a 4-2 record to amass 14 points including a 1-0 edging of Ardenne last Friday.

Ardenne are fourth on four points and trail Mona High and Bridgeport High who are second and third respectively. Bridge-port will aim to reassert themselves when they play away to Mona. Only one point separates Mona from Bridgeport but the latter are in a better position as they have a game in hand and have the best goal difference in the group.

Group E cellar-dwellers Campion College (three) and Innswood High (0) play at Campion.

Since their shock win over Bridgeport on September 20, Campion have lost four consecutive games and must be looking at today's encounter as a turning point. Innswood have lost all four games while conceding 15 goals and scoring one.

Group A leaders Excelsior (13) host Jamaica College (five), who are in third position. St. Andrew Technical High (eight) sneaked in second place ahead of JC with consecutive victories after drawing their first two games and losing the other. They host Jose Marti, who are on three points, at Tinson Pen.
