A splash of colour
published: Thursday | October 14, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I GO into the hills overlooking Kingston and it is such a joy, but one can't help noticing the denuded areas causing by the indiscriminate cutting down of trees, the erosion which often follows, and the fires which occur when the dry grass ignites in the summertime.

I would like to propose a solution, which would not only dissuade the would-be-burners, but would look sensational. Imagine the splash of colour if we covered sections of hillside Jacks Hill especially with our beautiful bougainvillaea! We could make a day of volunteer planting of the colourful plant, which thrives in the dry season.

Perhaps the ministers responsible for beautification of our city could take up my idea. I would certainly volunteer to help.

I am, etc.,

SYBIL FRANCIS
