Flood waters impede Aenon Town residents 'Since the hurricane, every time it rains this area tends to gather water which rises rapidly.'

By Lisa A. McKay, Gleaner Writer

THE AENON Town community situated just outside Cave Valley in St. Ann was blocked on Tuesday by almost five feet of water. When The Gleaner reached the scene, taxi men along with the councillor for the area Mr. Winston Brown were seen working diligently with men from the National Works Agency (NWA) trying to dig release drains to clear the road in the pouring rain.

Mr. Malcolm Morgan, a NWA worker, told The Gleaner that since the passage of Hurricane Ivan this area has become a flood prone zone.

"Since the hurricane, every time it rains this area tends to gather water which rises rapidly," he said.

It is reported that the taxi men from the area have had to stop working as the road has been impassable since last weekend. Many vehicles have stalled and had to be pushed or pulled out of the rising water.

According to Councillor Brown, "This Cave Valley, Aenon Town area has become disastrous. One neighbouring community, Norwood, has been totally cut off from the rest of this area by water," he told The Gleaner, adding that he is doing his best to help the residents because this emergency might turn out to be a disaster.
