FITZGERALD BARRETT, commanding officer for the St. Elizabeth Police division, has welcomed the recently launched 'Operation Kingfish' crime-fighting inititiative and is hoping that it will help to fight against illegal activities in the parish.
"I welcome any initiative that would put a sizeable dent on crime and violence especially against the importation of illegal drugs and guns," said Mr. Barrett in an recent interview with The Gleaner.
He said the St. Elizabeth police has information that the waters along the island's south coast were being used to transport illegal drugs and guns and with the help of 'Operation Kingfish', "I hope the wrongdoers will be brought to book."
ILLEGAL GUNS
"Just recently we recovered two illegal AK-47 submachine guns and two go-fast boats in the Black River and Pedro Plains area of the parish respectively. We're very much prepared to collaborate with this new initiative and are ready to assist it with any information or intelligence that we can garner," reported Mr. Barrett.
"I need to point out also that the resources at our disposal are far from adequate but we are prepared to (use) the best of what we have, where it is needed most."
Superintendent Barrett said he appreciated the support the division has been getting from members of the public in the parish. He is also appealing to the residents to come forward and assist the police with any information they might have on illegal activities in St. Elizabeth.
