THE EDITOR, Sir:
I HAVE been to the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Police Youth Club 50th Anniversary Awards Dinner at the Hilton Kingston Hotel on Saturday, September 4, 2004, and I am totally dissatisfied with the method of honouring persons who have served in the movement.
Selection was not fair. It seems that it was done in Kingston, where people in high category were selected who they believe would make the function a high class one. I was one of the persons who was selected to be awarded, only to understand that on the appointed day my name was removed from the list to facilitate other persons who made little or no contribution.
In my opinion, people should do their research and find out who have been in the movement for over 10 years such as myself who has been in it for over 14 years, Sergeant Cecil Gordon, Sergeant Alston Munroe for over 20 years, ex-Superintendent Douglas Waite for over 30 years, just to name a few.
I am sure the same thing has happened in other parishes. The selection seems to have been done and centred mainly around Kingston. Is it that Community Relations Headquarters does not keep records because if they do they could not make such a national mistake.
I am suggesting in the future a wider cross-section of the people of this country be involved in selection so that others and myself who have made great sacrifice will not be left out.
I am, etc.,
