WESTERN BUREAU:
WELL KNOWN Montego Bay policeman, Corporal Clive 'Karate Georgie' Lawrence, was detained yesterday by detectives from the Office of Professional Respon-sibility (OPR) on allegations of having commited simple larceny.
Cpl. Lawrence's detention stems from a police raid conducted at Saleem and Company Limited on Fustic Road in Montego Bay in August, during which he allegedly stole a cellular phone.
On August 4, the St. James Crime Unit reported that cash amounting to J$1.6 million (J$1,355,000 plus US$4720) and a quantity of goods and documents were seized from the businessplace that primarily retails car accessories, tyres and rims.
Keisha-Ann Shaw, a 28 year-old businesswoman of Upper Deck Apartments in the western city, was detained for breaches of the Bank of Jamaica Act after several documents recording details of a cambio operation were found. Customs officials also confiscated goods from the establishment and served a detention notice on the businessplace. Ms. Shaw was offered bail for $300,000 and was given a December court date.
Corporal Lawrence was detained following an investigation into allegations that a mobile set from a batch of Cable and Wireless instruments was missing from items seized during the operation at Saleem and Company Limited.
