High flyers face off today
published: Thursday | November 11, 2004

By Audley Boyd, Assistant Sport Editor

HARBOUR VIEW are off to a flying start with five convincing victories in as many matches.

Portmore United are coming off a thumping win at the weekend. And they are unbeaten too.

All that's left is for the contenders to live up to this top billing by producing a cracking Wray and Nephew National Premier League match at Ferdie Neita Park at 3:00 this afternoon.

Both teams, which hold the one-two positions in the league, contend that this rescheduled encounter will be tough.

Harbour View's coach, Donovan Hayles, said: "The Portmore team is very efficient. It's a team that's very minimal in making mistakes. When you're up against them you've to work very hard to carve out your opportunities. Their all round ability is equal to none, they have no weak points.

PATIENT AND VERY ACCURATE

"You have to be very patient and very accurate in execution or else you could find yourself on the wrong end of the stick," Hayles said.

Portmore United's coach, Lenworth Hyde, also paid respect to his team's opponents.

"It's a tough game. They are a team that attacks very well, they're scoring goals and they're playing some good football," Hyde said.

A number of players have featured in Harbour View's scoring including Luton Shelton, Craig Stewart, Jomo Gordon, Thomas Grant, Jermaine Hue and Nicholas McCreath and they will carry hopes of another win as Hayles wants them to maintain the winning trend "as long as we can.

"I'm not going to make it a burden but the more we can continue winning, the more confident and dangerous the team will become," added the former national goalie, whose team has scored 14 times for a perfect 15 points in five matches.

Portmore got the maximum in three of its five games and draws in the other two to see them with 11 points for joint second with Waterhouse. Three players have primarily figured in Portmore's scoring - Oneil McDonald, Jason Morrison and Denzil Watson. But Kevin Deerr and Damion Williams are also capable, like they showed in a 7-1 rampage against Wadadah on Sunday.

Hyde, a former national midfielder, says this is a good sign going into this contest.

"It is good momentum going into this game, scoring seven goals and it was among four different players. What's good for us is that more of our players are hitting the 18-yard box.

"We're playing at home and we're now doing well at home. I think we'll play some good football," Hyde said.
