THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE WAR in Iraq has created some big winners and some big losers.
One winner some people will tell you is Haliburton. One company that has and is continuing to make millions from this ongoing war here in the Middle East.
The biggest loser at this point in the war are the Iraqi people. The Iraqi people hate the fact that they are occupied. If the idea of being occupied is not enough they have to think of where the next suicide bomber will hit.
Before the war they could say I am a member of the Bath Party and declare loyalty to Saddam and they would have a sense of being safe. Now, who can they say they are loyal to and be safe?
If they say they oppose the United States and want them to leave, they stand the chance of being arrested. They would be seen by the occupier and the imposed government as insurgents. The other option they have is to come out against the resisters of the occupation (the insurgents). If they do this they could be killed by the insurgents. The Iraqi people are the losers.
Soon and, very soon, I hope this will change and the Iraqi people will be the winner of this long war.
I am, etc,
