Maintaining historical accuracy
published: Friday | December 3, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Thanks to Rev. Devon Dick for his gracious references to me in his commentary on the launching of the Bethel Baptist Church's Thrift Co-operative Society. Since he, like myself, has a fondness for historical accuracy, especially when it comes to things Jamaican, he would not mind, I'm sure, if I pointed out that Bethel's steel band is not the only one in a local church, as he implied.

As a matter of Anglican pride. I'm here to report that the Church of the Ascension, Mona Heights, the Parish Church at Black River, the St. Andrew Parish Church and the Church of the Transfiguration, Meadowbrook, all have steel bands which contribute regularly to worship. (You see, Anglicans are not so conservative after all!)

That aside, this does not diminish the tremendous witness of Bethel Baptist and its redoubtable leader Rev. Dr. Burchell Taylor or the pride expressed by Rev. Dick, another dedicated Baptist.

I am, etc.,

BARBARA GLOUDON
