The Wray and Nephew crew were dancing up a storm. - Winston Sill/Freelance Photographer

THE MOMENT you entered the gates of Devon House, the numerous cars parked on the lawn indicated this wasn't an ordinary fete.

J. Wray and Nephew threw their press party (and Christmas party, if you think about it) at the Grog Shoppe on Thursday December 2., J. Wray employees were decked in all black and rasta hair to add extra vibe to an already hyped event.

Guests had the chance to win bottles of their favourite liquor, including gin, vodka, Appleton and some of the 'whites'. But you had to lay a small hoop (attached to a pole by rope) over the neck of the bottle of your choice. Sounds simple, right? But it wasn't, as many media personnel found out. Oh, and did I mention you only had three minutes to do it?

After a hard day at the office or out in the field, this was the perfect way to unwind and many did so. The liquor flowed freely (as it should, considering who the hosts were) and the food provided a gastronomic pleasure. The bubbling pot of good ol' manish water to ease the stomach, made way for the variety of meats served with aplomb. A few of our media colleagues went home with leftovers galore. Everyone left with a bottle of rum and two glasses, perhaps for a little party afterwards.

The music was thumping as Coppershot's crew doled out hit after hit. The dancehall segment was possibly the most potent as a number of songs had to be 'pulled up' whether the dj wanted to or not; the crowd response was all that was needed.

Media people who came to party included TVJ General Manager Kay Osborne; RJR Group Head of Sports, Simon Crosskill; Observer Managing Director, Mark Pritchett; Sophia Findlay-Laidley, Olivia Campbell, Ann-Margaret Lim, Dara Smith, Oral Tracy, Karyl Walker, Dania Bogle, Fae Ellington, Maia Chung, Kerlyn Brown, Orville Higgins, Michael Pryce, Carol Francis, Brian Cummings, Denise Hunt (who won a weekend for two in the gate prize draw), Michael Edwards, Michael Williams, Christene King, Winford Williams, Tanisha Buchanan and Nicola Cunnigham.
