THE EDITOR, Sir:EVERY MORNING on the corner of Hope and Waterloo roads traffic lights, he was there, bright, bustling and shining like a streak of sunlight, wiping windshields with a great wonderful smile and a loud and resounding 'Have a nice day' or 'Have a lovely weekend with your family!'
His T-shirt said 'Have a Nice Day'. He was outstanding for his relentless cheerfulness and agility, his amazing speed, his huge brightness of spirit.
On Tuesday morning I was looking forward to seeing him, as I had something extra for him.
Instead, a Gleaner vendor, one of his many friends who work at that intersection every day, came up to our car window as usual with the Gleaner to sell to us, and told us point blank: "Dem kill Richie yesterday." Gunmen had killed him.
I could not contain my horror and grief and I felt as if I had been shot.
I know for sure that thousands of people who knew this bright, stunningly attractive and vibrant young man, this extraordinary example of what we should all strive to be, those thousands of people are going to sorely miss him.
I am, etc.,
