Second chance
Cosmetologist, telemarketer told to settle differences out of court

published: Thursday | December 16, 2004

Paul A. Reid, Staff Reporter

WESTERN BUREAU:

TWO WOMEN who were arrested and charged for fighting in Sam Sharpe Square in October, got a second chance to settle things out of court when they were referred for a second time to mediation.

Allison Williams, a 28-year-old cosmetologist of a Mt. Salem address and 20 year-old Vickesha Thompson, a telemarketer of a Green Pond address, were sent to mediation when they appeared earlier in the year, but had not gone for the sessions. The Montego Bay Resident Magistrate court heard on Monday that neither woman knew where the mediation centre was.

Williams, who is being represented by Clive Mullings, is facing six charges arising from the incident, while Thompson, who is being represented by Natalie Messado Brown, is facing two charges.

TWO OTHERS ESCAPE

The two were part of a group of four women who the police say were fighting in Sam Sharpe Square, but the other two managed to escape into a large crowd that had gathered to watch them.

Police reports are that a patrol responding to a 911 call, went to the corner of St. James and Market streets and saw the women fighting. Williams and Thompson were held, while the other two managed to escape.

While Thompson complied, it was alleged that Williams refused to go into the car and pushed the police officer. Back-up was requested and eventually both women were taken to the Freeport Police Station where they were charged.

Thompson was charged with disorderly conduct and causing a fray, while Williams is facing charges of causing a fray, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, assaulting a constable, malicious destruction of property, and assault occasioning bodily harm.

They are due back in court on January 31.
